Encore un grand cru pour l'équipe de Philippe Sinault, qui empoche ici un 2eme titre de champion et une troisième victoire au Mans en P2. Mais Au Mans, ca n'a pas été simple. Bien sur la belle bleue s'est qualifiée au 3eme rang du LMP2 et a bataillée ferme avec L'Aurus 01-Gibson (une oreca 07- rebadgée, tout comme l'Alpine) du G-drive Racing durant les premières heures, les écarts ne dépassant jamais la poignée de secondes. Mais le pace car de 0H20, en s'intercalant entre la 26 et l'Alpine va donner un bonus de près de 90 secondes à de l'Aurus. Et une heure plus tard, un autre safety car faisat encore perdre 30 seconds à l'Alpine. Revenue à 1'30" de l'Aurus à 7h du matin, un nouveau safety car refaisait perdre du temps à la 36. La messe semblait dite quand la voiture du G-Drive perdait 5 tours à cause d'un souci de démarreur. Il n'en fallait pas plus à Lapierre, Thiriet et Negrao pour reprendre la tête du LM P2 et offrir une 3eme victoire à Signatech Alpine !
Again a great year for Philippe Sinault's team which won here a second LM P2 champion title and a third Le Mans win ! Anyway in La Sarthe, it was all but easy. Of course the nice blue car was well qualified 3rd in LM P2 and had a frantic battle with the Aurus 01-Gibson G-Drive n°26 (A re naming of an Oreca 07 as well the Alpine) during the first hours of the race with a gap as small as a sheet of paper. But at 0H20 the safety car enters the track between the Aurus and the Alpine making the french car lose 90 seconds. One our later the same story happened, adding 30 seconds to the gap. At 7 o'clock the Alpine has reduced by 30 seconds the gap but a new safety car make it lose additional time. It seemed the writing was on the paper until the Aurus n°26 was stopped for 5 laps to repair its starter unit. That was the openning for Lapierre, Thiriet, Negrao. They take the LM P2 lead for good and offered a third class victory to Signatech Alpine !
