Partie en pôle position, la BMW M Hybrid V8 n°15 n'aura pas la course espérée. La fin de la première heure voyait en effet Magnussen, Marciello et Vanthoor chuter au neuvième rang. Vers 21heures, la BMW bleue était bien remontée
à la 6eme place, mais avec un retard de près de 1 minute sur sa soeur d'écurie, la n°20 et de 1 minute 20 secondes sur le leader du moment, la Cadillac n°38.
En doublant l'Oreca 07 du DKR engineering peu avant 22H a l'entrée du virage Corvette, Dries Vanthoor crevait à l'arrière droit. Le temps de rentrer aux stands et de réparer les dégats, deux tours étaient perdus, ôtant ainsi les dernières chances
qu'il restait à la n°15 de bien figurer. La litanie des problèmes s'égrênant ensuite tout le long de la course, la BMW bleue glissera progressivement au tout dernier rang de la course et ne verra pas le drapeau à damiers.
Starting the race in pole position, the BMW M Hybrid V8 n°15 will not have the expected race. The end of the first hour saw indeed Magnussen, Marciello and Vanthoor fall to the ninth place. Around 9 p.m. the blue BMW had returned to 6th place, but with a delay of almost 1 minute on its sister car,
the n°20 and 1 minute 20 seconds on the leader of the moment, the Cadillac n°38.
Overtaking the Oreca 07 of the DKR engineering shortly before 10 p.m. at the entrance of the Corvette Corner, Dries Vanthoor get a puncture on the right back tyre leading to mechanical damages. Time to return to the pits and repair, two laps were lost, thus denying the n°15 to take opportunity of its last chances to grab a good result.
The litany of issues continuing then throughout the race, the blue BMW will gradually slide to the very last rank of the race and will not see the checkered flag.
